‘Tis the season to be musical! At least that’s what we have been thinking for the past couple of months as we prepared for Steven C.’s “Christmas Beyond” concert at the Cathedral of Saint Paul. Steven recorded his “Christmas Beyond” album last winter at the Cathedral of Saint Paul and wanted a way to include others in the experience. When the opportunity arose for Steven to play a concert at the Cathedral this year, he couldn’t refuse. And when Steven asked us to help support the concert’s media relations, we absolutely couldn’t say no.
Before Steven C.’s music could deck the halls of the Cathedral, we put our media relations experience to work. First, we put “Christmas Beyond” in the hands of many well-known music reviewers. Next, we made sure the event was on every local calendar possible. We were thrilled to spread the word about the “Christmas Beyond” concert to local neighborhood associations, community organizations, newspapers, and radio and TV stations.
Between becoming WCCO’s latest “Minnesotan to Meet,” appearing on Twin Cities Live and getting featured in the Catholic Spirit, Steven C. was in high demand as his concert drew near. Even when a potentially sizable setback hit – a broken pinkie finger resulting from playing catch with his son after a Vikings victory – Steven didn’t miss a beat.
Most of our team attended Steven’s concert last Thursday at the Cathedral, and let us tell you, it was magical. Nearly 3,000 people filled the pews as Steven played his beloved Bösendorfer accompanied by the talented STRINGenius ensemble conducted by Adi Yeshaya. The Saint Cecilia and Saint Gregory Choristers of the Cathedral Choir School also joined Steven and company for multiple songs, filling the space with the enchanting notes of holiday hymns.
As the concert drew to a close, we all joined in for a beautiful rendition of “Silent Night” led by Jayne Windnagel, the Cathedral Choir School director. The night ended as Steven signed hundreds of CDs for his new (and existing) fans. We had a blast working with such a talented musician, and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next! And in case you’re searching for any last-minute stocking stuffers, “Christmas Beyond” is available on iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby and on www.stevencmusic.com.
