The 52nd annual Uptown Art Fair came and went this past weekend, and we were delighted to be a part of it!
After an in-studio live shot at KSTP on Thursday, our fair time began Friday morning with a 4 a.m. wake-up call for a live shot. WCCO’s Ali Lucia interviewed Uptown Association executive director Maude Lovelle and 2015 commemorative artist Brian Delozier – not to be confused with Twins all-star Brian Dozier. Brian Delozier has a story all his own. After a life-altering skiing accident at 16, Brian found new life through art. Brian was able to tell his heartfelt story of how the art of pointillism changed his life to media throughout the weekend.
Just after sunrise, Fox 9 arrived on the scene with M.A. Rosko for another round of art talk. It was so awesome to see the array of art – everything from painting to pottery to… bottle caps? That’s right! Arguably our favorite piece of art from the weekend was a beautifully crafted wooden banana on a spring covered in hundreds of flattened bottle caps. Take a look at this beast:
Todd Walker from Fox 9 was next up on the Uptown Art Fair media dance card and he got to explore a crowd favorite – the Culinary Arts Competition. New this year, home cooks competed for the chance to work with chefs from Minneapolis restaurant Oceanaire. The Culinary Arts Competition was a big hit!
Our last media event for the 2015 Uptown Art Fair was a live shot with WCCO’s Rachel Slavik. We got to feature some amazing glass art as well as jewelry all the way from Florida. The Uptown Art Fair always brings in the best variety of local and national talent.
After the live shots were over, we got a chance to roam the grounds and see all of the hard work of the Uptown Association in action. From the Tomorrow’s Stars youth art fair to the Subaru Performance Stage, there was something in store for everyone. The Star Tribune did a great job of laying out just what visitors could experience.
Nearly 400,000 people visited Uptown over the span of the three-day fair, and despite some muggy conditions, we’re pretty sure they all had a grand time. Thanks so much, Uptown Association, for another year of partnership on this successful event!
