You’ve heard us shout from the rooftops our support for ThreeSixty Journalism, a nonprofit program of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of St. Thomas, which uses the principles of strong writing and reporting to help diverse Minnesota youth tell the stories of their lives and communities.
It’s a spectacular program: Students gain a voice to tell their stories, helping them feel more connected to their communities and become more driven, knowledgeable, confident, tenacious, brave, enthusiastic and passionate in life.
We need your help.
Since 2011, journalists and communications professionals with a passion for fostering the next generation of storytellers have been instrumental in helping raise money by “bundling” in advance of the organization’s annual fundraising event, which this year falls on Oct. 23.
Collectively, we’ve raised tens of thousands of dollars by all contributing a little to make a big difference. Several newsrooms across the Twin Cities are coordinating their own bundling initiatives again this year, doing everything from coordinating silent auctions, putting on bake sales or just passing the hat.
For the first time, we’re coordinating a dedicated bundling initiative for PR and communications agencies and professionals (as well as journalists and former journalists from all over the state who aren’t affiliated with a specific newsroom bundling effort). We’re asking you to join with us to support this phenomenal organization.
Here’s how to participate:
Simply make a donation – any size! – by visiting the ThreeSixty Donation page, then let us know that you did (you can keep the amount confidential). That’s it!
We’ll keep updating this blog and our social media to thank supporters publicly, and all bundler names will be a part of our collective contribution to ThreeSixty at the Great MN Media Get-Together event Oct. 23.
There are other ways to participate, as well: You and your agency or newsroom could also become a sponsor of or attend the event. More information about both options is below.
If you have any questions, contact Brian Bellmont, who serves on the organization’s board of advisors, or Briana Gruenewald, who used to work for it. For more information about ThreeSixty, visit www.threesixtyjournalism.org.
The Great Minnesota Media Get-Together celebrates ThreeSixty Journalism and its students in a relaxed cocktails and appetizer environment, with a sit-down dessert provided as guests enjoy a brief, lively program that includes videos and awards, raffle winners and a live auction!
This year’s featured guest is Laura Lee, ThreeSixty’s inaugural scholar and current anchor and reporter at KAAL TV in Rochester, Minnesota. The event is hosted by KARE 11 journalist Boua Xiong.
